5th Grade Music
In 5th grade, students will pick between orchestra, band and choir. This will then be your music class for the entire school year. It will meet twice a week for 40 minutes during the school day. During the first week of school, students will meet with the three music teachers to learn about the three different classes. After the demonstration, students will receive an enrollment form which needs to be filled out by the parents and returned to school the next day. If students do not turn in the form or turn it in too late, they may not get their first choice of class.
Choir: Students sing and play accompanying instruments
Orchestra:
Violin, viola, and cello are taught in 5th grade orchestra class.
Band:
Flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, and bells are taught in 5th grade band class.
Instruments:
There are a limited number of district owned instruments available for band and orchestra. A drawing will be done at the end of the first week of school to determine who will be loaned these instruments for the school year. Since the school instruments are limited, you may not get your first choice of instrument. Please make sure your two instruments choices are from the same class. For example: 1st choice cello, 2nd choice violin is correct. 1st choice violin, 2nd choice flute is wrong because they are in two different classes. The choices must be in the same class.
You also have the option of providing your own instrument by purchasing or renting from a music store of your choice. If you rent or purchase your instrument, you do not need to have a 1st or 2nd choice because you already have the instrument and are not relying on a random drawing.
