This page is for my middle school students in Orchestra class
Middle School classes meet every day during the first two periods. All students in the class have access to school instruments which they can use for the class. They can also take instruments home to practice once the instrument paperwork is finished. I encourage students to take home instruments over the weekend so they can share what they have learned with their family.
We play a variety of music in class: classical, folk, and pop. Students can give me input on which pieces they want to focus on for performances as well as what pieces they want to learn in class. Orchestra students also learn ensemble music, which has multiple parts happening at the same time. I hope with this wide variety of musical types that all students find something that they really enjoy.
Students learn how to hold the instrument correctly and how to read music. We will learn how to tune the instrument and how to take proper care of it. Orchestra students will try more advanced techniques like shifting and vibrato.
Music class is a lot of fun. We have opportunities to work in pairs or teams during class. It is a relaxed atmosphere and a great way to start your morning every day.
